Based on an ultra HD video interface chip from Lattice Semiconductor, the reference design supports the growing interest in ultra-high-definition transmission and high dynamic range (HDR) picture quality.

In the reference design Valens’ Colligo chipset (VS2310) is paired with Lattice’s chipsets – the SiI9630, HDMI 2.0 transmitter and SiI9396, HDMI 2.0 receiver.

Gabi Shriki, head of Valens’ AV business, writes:

“With this new reference design, we are addressing the market need for long range transmission of full 4K 60Hz 4:4:4 and HDR-enabled content.  This solution is also a precursor to the future HDMI 2.1 specification, which will use visually lossless compression to support the higher format resolutions.”

The addition of HDR to a TV display means that it can show a wider range of brightness and luminosity than is the norm. The result is greater contrast ratio which adds to picture clarity in 4k resolution TV.
